AVAHANTI HOMAM

Sri Sankara Mattham is performing Avahanti Homam on Shukla Panchami day in the morning.

The Avahanti Homam is a fire ritual homam performed to seek the Blessings of Goddess Annapoorni Devi, who is associated with Food, Agriculture and Economic prosperity.

It is believed that this homam brings prosperity, Good health, knowledge and fine relationships with everyone.

Avahanti Homam involves chanting of mantras, offering sacred materials to the fire god.

It is explained in Taitriya Upanishad as the fire that is done to honour the Guru to receive wisdom and knowledge while removing Ignorance and obliviousness. The aim of performing the homam is intelligence (medha) which is the prime wealth everyone should possess.

All the knowledge focuses from one’s Guru and therefore prayers for the well-being of the guru form an essential part of Avahanti Homam.
