Annabhishekam at Sri Sankara Mattham
Anna Abhishekam denotes bathing the deity with cooked rice. This divine ritual is performed on the full Moon day in the Tamil month of Aippasi.
The sanctum Sanctorum of Sri Sankara Mattham and Siva Linga was decorated and covered with cooked rice and vegetables on the occasion of the Annabhishekam .It is a unique ritual that invokes the blessings of Lord Shiva. On this day the Shiva Lingam, the symbol of Lord Shiva’s energy, is hydrated with the traditional abhishekam. The idol is covered with cooked rice , with an assortment of vegetables decorating the top of the Lingam. At the end of the ritual , and after deeparadhana the rice and the vegetables are distributed as Prasad to the devotees.
