Sankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Sri Vijayendra Saraswati performed the 5th Ashtabandhana Jeeranotharana Maha Kumbhabhishekam , at the Sri Sankara Mattham , Matunga . He went atop the mattham and poured holi water from the top Rajagopuram to purify all the deities installed in the temple. This sacred consecration ceremony is undertaken every 12 years to rejuvenate and preserve the sanctity of the deities and the temple in accordance with Agama traditions. Prior to this ceremony various homams were conducted for four days in the Mutt premises. The Seer also performed abhishekams on the idols in the premises.
